Fight4Justice fights to gain freedom for those currently and formerly incarcerated; especially those who are LGBTQ.
Dee Farmer is an expert and legal consultant. A legend in the transgender rights movement. She was the first transgender petitioner to have a case accepted by the United States Supreme Court. In 1994, her landmark case, the unanimous Farmer v. Brennan decision, established that prisoners have a right to be protected from harm and that prisons are responsible for their safety. The case stems from the rape she suffered at a maximum security federal prison, where she had been placed despite being 19 years old and having begun the processes and procedures of expressing as a transgender woman. Farmer v. Brennan has been and continues to be cited by thousands of courts and relied upon by prisoners and petitioners. It was also foundational to the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003.

Our Projects
Transgender Dignity and Rights Project
Assisting incarcerated transgender persons with obtaining appropriate housing, medical and mental health treatment, and reentry services.
Trauma and Imprisonment Project
The treatment of the trauma stemming from the experiences (often related to homelessness, childhood abuse, harassment, assault, molestation and rape, etc.) that LGBTQ persons suffer prior to and during incarceration is not being prioritized over imprisonment. The Trauma & Imprisonment Project educates judges, lawyers, and community advocates about the traumatic experiences of LGBTQ persons within the criminal justice system; and assist lawyers with seeking treatment for this trauma within the community as opposed to initial or continued imprisonment.
Compassionate Release Project
Assisting incarcerated persons who have been imprisoned longterm, who are suffering from terminal illness (including cancer and HIV), or have otherwise experienced extraordinary circumstances obtain a compassionate release. Assisting them with developing facts and evidence required by the courts and parole boards for a compassionate release.
